Gaji Market Bag (Black/Red)
Known as 茄芷袋 (“Ga Ji” bag) these bags are also known as “Grandma bags” because they were mostly used by older women when they went to shop at the local markets and also by farmers when harvesting fruit. Gaji bags have a long history dating back to the Japanese colonial period when farming families in the south would gather Soft Rush plants in the nearby marshes and weave large bags to sell as an extra source of income. With increased industrialization, they transitioned into using plastic as the main material for these bags but the bags are still sewn by the same rural communities in southern Taiwan.
Gaji bags are very durable and extremely lightweight. They are easy to clean and are great as a reusable shopping bag or beach bag or gym bag for starters. The possible uses are endless all while offering a bright pop of color. Green, blue and red is the original color combination but there is now a wide variety of color and style options, including this stylish black and red combination.
