San He “Flower Window” Soap Dish (Plum Blossom)

$30.00

A “flower window” (花窗) is a grid of latticework brick tiles that form windows in historic homes and courtyard walls.  The decorative pattern of this soap dish is based on a common “flower window” motif of a stylized plum blossom, which is the national flower of Taiwan and a symbol of resilience and perseverance.

These soap dishes are produced in a century old kiln that previously specialized in firing tiles for building materials in traditional homes.  Since traditional construction is rare now, San He kiln focuses mainly on producing roof tiles for temple restoration projects.   They have also creatively transitioned to producing home decor and tableware.  Not only are these soap dishes visually appealing, their material is meant to withstand temperature fluctuations and moisture.  Form and function converge for these soap dishes, and they would be an attractive and unique addition to any bathroom or kitchen.

Dimensions: 3.625” W. x 3.50” H. x 0.875” D.

Fired and glazed clay

Made in Kaohsiung, Taiwan

Wipe clean with a damp cloth

Note: As with most handcrafted, artisanal and non-machine produced works, there may be a slight lack of uniformity and some minor imperfections.
