Hinoki Cypress Essential Oil
An evergreen coniferous tree that grows at high altitudes in the fog shrouded mountains of central Taiwan, the Hinoki Cypress is revered as a sacred and divine tree by the aboriginal peoples of Taiwan. Essential oil derived from the Hinoki Cypress is admired for its woody and earthy fragrance and plenitude of health benefits, such as restoring energy levels, relieving headaches and lowering systolic blood pressure. Hinoki Cypress essential oil has been produced for generations and prized since the Japanese colonial period. Due to subsequent over-logging, a moratorium was placed on the harvesting of these giants of the mist so current essential oils are produced from a lengthy double steam distillation process of the twigs and bark fragments that can be naturally foraged in the forests.
While Hinoki Cypress essential oil is appreciated for its soothing effect, its initial scent can be assertive so it should be used sparingly. One quick application is sufficient for an entire day.
